Provincial Approval

On August 29, Municipal Affairs & Housing Notified the Municipality that the Amendments to the Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw have been approved as submitted. Notice of this approval was advertised on September 9, 2022 and the amendemnts are now in effect.

Planning Fact Sheet on Wind Turbine Regulations This Fact Sheet outlines Federal and Provincial approval processes along with those for several agencies involved in various aspects of wind turbines. The Provincial Environmental Assessment process is also examined. The process and approval options available to Nova Scotia Municipalities is described along with the current Policy and Regulations in the Municipality of Cumberland.

Staff have also prepared information sheets on Best Practices and Policy Gaps in wind turbine development.

Draft Recommendations: Staff have now completed draft recommendations to current municipal regulations. These draft recommendations are shared here with the public and Municipal Council for a second review period until May 5, before being revised and starting the final adoption process in June.
